What a lovely picnic we had!
Friday 22nd July
This year the children have really enjoyed the marble run. Today we made our own version out of paper plates and decorated it with felt pens. The children had lots of fun and did maths too when they totalled their score!
Thursday 21st July
Sports Day! What a lovely day it was and we were so lucky that the rain held off! Thank you to everyone who came and a big well done to all the children who tried ever so hard and worked well as part of a team.
Wednesday 20th July
First thing this morning we enjoyed some sports activities outside, we even had a water/rest station!
Monday 18th July
Today we went to see our art in Urmston library. I just want to congratulate every child on how well behaved they were and how polite and respectful they were inside the library. The children really enjoyed listening to some stories from the library staff, looking at their art work and reading some of the books the library has to offer.
We were informed about the summer reading challenge and the rewards that the children get at each stage of the challenge. At one point we all tried on some special glasses – ask your child what happened when we wore them!
Well done again Class 4!
Friday 15th July
The children have had such a busy week this week! I hope you enjoy ready your child’s report and looking at the photographs. On Monday we are going to visit Urmston Library and see our art work. With the recent changeable weather please can you send your child in with a waterproof coat. The children will be back in plenty of time for lunch and will have their milk and fruit at school so there will be no need to send in anything extra.
I’m really looking forward to the trip and making the most of our last few days in school with exciting activities before the summer holidays.
Thursday 7th July
Thank you to all that came to Open Day this afternoon, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
This week we have been building up a piece of art work inspired by Andy Warhol. It is now displayed in Urmston library! It is located on the first floor stairwell opposite the lift.
Tuesday 28th June
We enjoyed doing observational drawings today. The children tried really hard to sketch and shade. I’m really proud of the results!
Monday 27th June
We had great fun making our African masks today! We used wooden dowling to add spots to our masks in a symmetrical pattern. Your will see the finished products during our Open Day next Thursday.
Monday 20th June
What a wonderful day we had enjoying African Drumming. We listened to them, played them and used the percussion instruments to accompany the drums.
Wednesday 25th May
Today we followed a set of instructions to make a fruit salad. Tomorrow we will be writing our own set of instructions for Mr Doherty. I hope you enjoy them at home boys and girls.
Friday 20th May
What a busy week! We have made African masks out of paper plates and threaded beads through pipe cleaners. It was great fun and the final products were spectacular!
This week we have also been working on our knowledge of using suffixes and spelling the days of the week!
Tuesday 10th May
Today we continued to develop our problem solving skills. We had a shape problem, a number problem and an addition problem. The children were able to apply their mathematical skills and had fun whilst doing it!
Friday 29th April
As part of the Queen’s birthday celebration we have been writing menus for an afternoon tea. Today we made a teacup biscuit! The children really enjoyed themselves and I’m sure will enjoy eating their creations. Have a lovely bank holiday and I’ll see you back in school on Tuesday!
Wednesday 27th April
What a brilliant day had by all on farm day today! We saw hens, goats, sheep, lambs, ducks and alpacas. We were able to feed the animals, stroke the duck and even take the alpaca for a walk! Please enjoy the photos below!
Friday 15th April
Welcome back! What a lovely week we have had! We have been focusing on using descriptive language, positions and directions. In PE the children had to direct their partner to the cone whilst blind folded. In Maths we have been turning shapes using clockwise and anti clockwise and thinking about quarter turns and half turns.
Today we enjoyed making chocolate Easter nests with mini eggs.

Tuesday 21st March
First of all, a big well done to all the class in the ukulele concert today. A lot of hard work and effort has gone into learning the songs and tunes over the last 9 weeks and the children did themselves proud today!
This afternoon we went on a spring walk around the school and spotted shoots, buds,daffodils and bluebells. We had a lovely time!
Friday 11th March
This week we have been learning how to make totals using money, researching animals on the internet and learning how to write non-chronological reports. We have been so busy and I am proud of all of them!
Thursday 3rd March
What fabulous costumes we all had today! Thank you for all the effort you put in to help your child celebrate World Book Day.
Tuesday 1st March
Today we started our work on multiplication. The children learnt how to work it out as ‘lots of’. They had questions such as; 3 lots of 2, 5 lots of 5 etc. they used counters to work it out. We will keep practising all week.
Friday 25th February
After such a busy first week back the children all really enjoyed their Golden Time outside in the playground today!
Next half term term the children will enjoy using a puppet theatre in the role play. I look forward to watching some interesting shows!
Friday 12th February
What fun we had trying to learn how to use chopsticks! We enjoyed our noodles, prawn crackers and spring rolls, when we eventually got them to our mouths!

Wednesday 10th February
We enjoyed using the climbing frame in PE today. We had to think about how to move through, across and up and down.
Our trip to the Lowry
We had so much fun on the trip and learnt a lot too. It was lovely to see all the children so engaged! Thank you to all the parents who joined us there to help.
Friday 5th February
This week in our guided reading sessions we have been reading play scripts. We have really enjoyed taking on the roles of the characters and acting it out!
Tuesday 2nd February
In our ukulele lessons we learn about tempo, dynamics and pitch as well as learning how to play the instrument. The children have learnt a song and can change the dynamics of it according to the instruction of our music teacher. Well done!
Wednesday 27th January
In gymnastics we have been practising our tuck, straddle and pike positions. Today we used all 3 positions and rocked back and forth into the different positions. It used our tummy muscles well! We also experimented travelling along the benches in different ways.
Tuesday 26th January
We enjoyed a phonics workshop this afternoon. We played different games and used our phonics knowledge to make monster names. We then wrote sentences to describe the monsters and explain what they were scared of. The children had wonderful imaginations!
Friday 22nd January
Today we made bear faces to continue our traditional tales theme in English. After the children made them they enjoyed their snack with a good book!
Wednesday 20th January
Today we wrote a letter to The 3 Bears as if we were Golidilocks apologising for eating the porridge, breaking the chair and sleeping in Baby Bear’s bed. After, we used our green editing pens to improve our work by checking for missing punctuation and adding in extra adjectives.
Friday 15th January
We really enjoyed continuing our Lowry topic today! We mixed colours of paint just like Lowry had to! We also used our Lowry Art gallery role play. Look out for letters in your child’s book bag about an upcoming trip to the Lowry Gallery in Salford.
Tuesday 12th January
Today was our first ukulele lesson. We learnt how to hold it and how to pluck the strings. We now know that the 4 strings are GCEA. We learnt a rhyme to help us remember the order of these notes; Gorillas Can Eat Anything.
Wednesday 6th January
In Premier Sports this half term we are focusing on our gymnastics skills. We warmed our bodies up, stretched our muscles and learnt the pike, straddle and tuck positions!
Monday 4th January.
Welcome back, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break! Today we began by finding a quarter and a half of numbers in word problems. We had to share counters between Frozen and Toy Story characters making sure they had the same amount each.
Wednesday 16th December
Earlier in the year we made crowns and wrote a letter to the Queen to congratulate her on being the longest reigning Monarch. Well, today we received a reply!!!
The letter was addressed to all the children of Class ! We were very excited to read her reply.
Monday 14th December
We started our festive week by making melted snowman biscuits. We followed a set of instructions and produced some excellent looking biscuits. Well done everyone.
Monday 7th December
Today in Science we were experimenting to find out which of The 3 Little Pigs houses was the strongest. We found out a lot about the properties of materials by doing this.
Wednesday 2nd December
In Premier Sports today we worked in pairs to pass the ball between each other whilst linking arms back-to-back. It was tricky but fun!
We also worked on our ball skills by rolling the ball along a bench to a partner.
Tuesday 1st December
We have been ‘Hot Seating’ Katie Morag today. We thought of our own questions and some of us pretended to be Katie Morag and answered the questions. It was great fun!

Wednesday 25th November
During our Maths this week we have been learning about capacity. Today the class had to sort different containers into groups according to how full/ empty it was.
We have also been working on the story of The 3 Little Pigs this week and worked in groups to act out the story. It was great fun!
Tuesday 24th November
Today we had an assembly from ‘Mad Science’. They showed us some exciting experiments and we got to have a go ourselves! It was great fun. After the Christmas break there will be a ‘Mad Science’ after school club. Keep an eye out for letters in your child’s book bag!

This week so far we have learning how to tell the time by playing time bingo!
Thursday 12th November
Yesterday was the start of the festival Diwali. We have been learning about how Hindu’s celebrate this festival. We lit Diwa lamps and found out they were used to help Rama and Sita find their way home.
Monday 9th November
Hope you had a good weekend! Today we started our work on fractions of numbers. We learnt to half a number by practically sharing into 2 groups. This will help us tomorrow to find a quarter of a number.
Welcome back! Hope you all had a lovely half term. Today we have thought about fireworks and used musical instruments to imitate the sounds we may hear.

Tuesday 20th October
As part of our Science topic we made paper bag trees to show what the trees look like in Autumn. Today we have cut all our branches, twisted the trunk and then each individual branch. It took us a while but we really worked on our fine motor skills to get there. Check back tomorrow to see our finished products!
Friday 16th October
This week we have been developing our shape knowledge by using 2D shapes to build 3D shapes. We have also used our play garden to look for sign of Autumn in Science and in phonics have worked on our split e-e and split i-e sound (these, like). Another enjoyable week in class 4!
Friday 2nd October
This week in English we have been continuing our work on Toy Story and writing character descriptions. In Maths we have been learning about measure. We have been using scales to weigh objects, using lego bricks to measure the height of objects in the classroom and solving problems using our newly learnt knowledge. In Science the children really enjoyed tasting fruit in Science and tried new fruits too. Well done to everyone in Class 4 who have made me so proud this week, you have all worked so hard and learnt so many new things. I look forward to next week!
Friday 25th September
This week we have used our senses to describe fruit in Science, ordered pictures from the Toy Story story and sorted old and new toys in History. What a busy week!
Friday 18th September
This week in maths we have been doing of number work and learning how to use a number line to find 1 more, 1 less and simple addition. Any extra help and practise at home is always beneficial. Well done for another fabulous week class 4!
Wednesday 9th September
Today we enjoyed our first Premier Sports PE lesson. We utilised our team work skills to share ideas and complete a questionnaire ready for future lessons. We are really looking forward to these lessons which will take place every Wednesday morning.

What a fantastic Sports Day we had! We were so lucky that the rain held off. A lot of fun was had by all and I was so proud of everything the children achieved, as I’m sure you were too! Thank you for your support!

During our ICT lesson today we were learning how to type! We used all four fingers and our thumbs for the space bar.
Friday 19th June
This week we have continued our work on the story Blown Away. We have identified rhyme and ordered the story ready for writing our version next week.
Wednesday 10th June
Welcome back! I hope you had fantastic half term break! This half term we are continuing to think about why a meerkat can’t live in the North Pole. As part of this topic we have a safari role play area. The children have the opportunity to create and use their imagination. I’m sure they will really enjoy it!
Friday 22nd May
We have been learning how a polar bear can stay warm in the North Pole. We discussed the fact that polar bears have a layer of blubber under their skin. To help understand this more we wore a glove and put our hand in a bag of ‘blubber’ (trex, used for baking!) we then put our hand in a bucket of ice cold water and realised how the blubber protected our hand from the icy conditions. It was great fun! All the children got to have a turn throughout the day.
Tuesday 19th May
This week we’ve been continuing our work on Arctic animals. The children were given facts about terns, polar bears, puffins, Arctic foxes and harp seals, they had to work together to read the facts and discuss which animal it related to.
Monday 11th May
Year group singing practice. We learnt a new song about animals today. We added in instruments and tried to keep to the beat and rhythm of the song. We all really enjoyed it.
Thursday 7th May
We looked at pictures of the Kalahari desert this week as part of our topic on ‘Why can’t meerkats live in the North Pole?’ We then did some art work based on the desert and used textured paint, sand paper and tissue paper to make our own representations.
Thursday 23rd April
This week has been science week, the children have enjoyed a variety of activities in the classroom and outside in the play garden everyday. We have made bee hotels, planted hedges, made bird feeders and butterfly houses. We have also learnt about life cycles and researched mini beasts on the iPads.
Thursday 2nd April
What a fabulous Easter bonnet parade! The weather was kind to us and there was a sea of bonnets: chicks, rabbits, eggs, feathers galore! Thank you for all the effort put into making them. Have a lovely break and see you in two weeks.

Today was sponsored bounce. It was a cold day but we soon got warm and enjoyed our well deserved milk! Thank you for all your donations.
Wednesday 18th March
Today was our trip into Urmston. We saw things through new eyes and a truely wonderful morning and I’m so proud of how well behaved everyone in Class 4 were! Whilst we were out we used a map and looked for landmarks. As part of our Science topic we looked for birds, plants, trees and flowers. We did observational drawings and tree rubbings. When we arrived back at school we continued with our drawings and shaded them in.
Tuesday 10th March
This week in Maths we were sorting jelly beans using our own criteria. We then made pictograms with the jelly beans and later in the week we will move on to tally charts and bar charts. The children will also be asked to work out the most popular and least popular amongst other questions.
Thursday 5th March
Today was World Book Day! We had such an amazing time, making potions like Harry Potter, being authors and illustrators and sharing our costumes during the parade in the school hall. Thank you to all the parents for your effort into producing fantastic costumes!

Thursday 26th February
Today we were lucky enough to have a visit from the RNLI. They spoke to us about beach safety, life guards and what the flags on a beach mean. We had lots of fun, have a look at these photographs:
Before the half term we enjoyed National Story Telling Week with a visit from the Junior School. Pupils came over to read us a story, ask questions and engage with us. It was great fun!
