Thursday 18th May

In maths we have been sharing fairly and equally. We shared beans between plant pots today. The children knew to count them at the end to check they had shared them accurately.

Tuesday 2nd May

I hope you all had a lovely long weekend! We have come back this week with a focus on subtraction, throwing and catching and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have read the story and already started on ball control and subtraction. You can help at home by practising counting back from a given number. This gives then the skill of mental subtraction.

Monday 24th April

Today the children did observational drawings of daffodils. They were asked to draw what they could see, not what they thought they could see. This was quite tricky, but they all managed to draw wonderful daffodils which were then coloured in. Some of them even used 2 shades of the same colour to in their drawings. Well done.

Tuesday 18th April

Welcome back to Urmston Primary School! We started our day with a celebratory breakfast, then Hayley Cutts from Newsround helped us to open our new school together. We then enjoyed a play time as a whole school, it was lovely to see some of the boys and girls find their friends and family members in the junior department.

I’m sure this is the start of a very exciting term!

Friday 31st March

I can’t believe that it is April tomorrow and nearly the end of the spring term. What a big difference in the children since the start of the term. This week we have used numicon to make bonds to 10, had porridge oats in the water tray to find matching eggs, had broccoli in the play dough to act as trees for the animals and made Noah’s ark outside. This week in maths we have been making pictograms and answering questions such as which is the most/least popular  we have also been estimating how many Easter eggs are in the basket.

Next week our Easter bonnet parade is on Tuesday at 10:15. I hope to see many of you there.

Friday 10th March

What a busy week we have had, I can’t believe it’s Friday already! This week we have read The Tiger who Came to Tea and we even had a visit from the tiger who messed up our role play and ate too much food! Consequently we wrote a letter to the zoo keeper to ask him if the tiger could back next week to our tea party where we would feed him a balanced meal and teach him table manners.

On Friday next week, we will be having our tea party, please see the weekly newsletter for more information and if you have any queries regarding the food feel free to ask!

This week in PE we have been using the apparatus, much to the children’s delight! We got the apparatus out with care and travelled along it carefully too.

Friday 27th January

This week we have been learning all about penguins. In PE we pretended to be penguins waddling and finding our other penguin friends. We have learnt that the daddy penguins look after the eggs whilst the mummy penguin looks for food. The boys and girls pretended that bean bags were the penguin eggs and had to tramsfer them to the mummy penguin when she came back without using their hands. It was very interesting to watch their team work skills!!!!

Today is Golden Time!!!! This is always a fun part of the week, especially when it’s own toys. Next week we will also have own toys! Please can the children only bring in one toy, as you can imagine with a class full of children it can be hard to store them all.

Thursday 19th January

This week we have had a focus on our phonic sounds oi (coin), igh (light) and ow (cow). We have been writing words with these sounds in and some of us have been writing sentences.

We have developed our vocabulary this week by reading “That’s not my…..” books. We then wrote our own stories by choosing a cat, train, dog or teddy bear. We chose materials and described them using our new vocabulary.

In our outdoor learning we’ve been making igloo homes for teddy bears, writing on snow flakes, ordering numbers and so much more! I’m so proud of how all the children try new things and behave so well. Thank you Class 7!

This week we have read We’re going on a bear hunt. After enjoying it so much we decided to write our version of the book. We came up with our own adjectives to describe the settings. The forest was damp, the river was warm and the grass was long and green. After spending the day rewriting the story we then acted out our story in the play garden, and you will never guess what happened…… we found our bear!

Thursday 5th January

Welcome back and happy new year. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break. This half term we are focusing on the season winter, looking at the North and South Pole, learning facts about polar bears and penguins and we will be reading ‘We are going on a bear hunt’.

It might only be the first day back but the children have got stuck into all the activities on offer. In our role play we have an Arctic explorers area. In our maths area the children are practising their number formation, filling in missing numbers and even counting in twos. We also have numbers to order on the penguins tummy! In our outdoor learning the children are hunting High Frequency Words on snowmen and writing down their findings on clipboards.

Have a look at the photos below to see how busy we have already been.

Today we played a game to help us with our use of positional language. The children picked a preposition out of the bowl (inside, under, in front of etc) and had to place the teddy bear somewhere in school using the word they had picked from the bowl. Can you guess what position they picked?

What a busy week the children have had. We have really enjoyed all our activities based around Diwali. The children have told me all about their Bollywood dancing on Tuesday! This week we also had a visit from a Paralympian, Jordanna Bartlett. What an inspiration! The children asked her questions about life in a wheel chair and playing basket ball in the Paralympics.

We have also been ordering numbers on diva lamps and came into the classroom lit with diva lamps, just like the walk Rama and Sita would have made to get back home.

Monday 17th October

Today we made bread! The children loved kneading it and shaping it into a roll. We looked at the ingredients list, weighed them out, mixed it together and then in the afternoon had a little taste. We talked about the changes in appearance , the smell and the  taste.

Many of the fruit and vegetables you see in the photograph were donated by Sainsburys in Urmston. If you have any spare fruit and vegetables that you would be willing to donate to our harvest shop we would very grateful.
