Welcome to our Eco Club. We meet once a month and our aim is to improve the environment around our school and our community. We will keep you posted on the projects we will be undertaking this year to achieve our Eco Schools Silver Award and work towards our Gold Award.

July 2016

We have entered the Tatton Park Primary Schools Fruit and Veg competition. We have been picking the fruit and veg that we planted earlier in the year.

Our New Water Butt

This term, we have installed a water butt to collect rainwater that will help us water our gardens without wasting any water. Thank you to Mr Ward for helping us to do this.

March 2016

Our Friends of TED joined forces with our Eco Club to do some gardening in the garden of Urmston Grammar School. We had a lovely afternoon planting some new vegetables that we hope to be ready for July when they will be entered into a competition at the Tatton Park Garden Show. Check our Friends of TED page for even more photographs.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to Mrs Motiwala and our Eco Friends at Urmston Grammar School who have been awarded the top grant of £12,000 to increase the diversity of wildlife around our schools. We will be able to benefit from some of the money awarded too. Well done everybody!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Can you help our Eco schools?

Dear Parents,

Urmston Grammar has won a grant from Tesco who have teamed up with Groundwork to launch its ‘Bags of Help’ initiative across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge. Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s 390 regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the five pence charge levied on single-use carrier bags.

Urmston Grammar aim to increase the diversity of wildlife in the school grounds of Urmston Grammar and with the help of the schools (Urmston Infant & Urmston Juniors and English Martyrs) that use our primary school garden.

The amount we get is down to you. The public will vote in store from 27 February until 6 March on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards.

TREE PLANTING

Our Eco Club have been planting some trees in our patch at Urmston Grammar School. We planted two apple trees into two ready made holes and filled them up with soil after attaching the trees to stakes in the ground. We also painted some very pretty bird boxes.

HARVESTING CROPS WITH OUR ECO CLUB

Our Eco Club have been to Urmston Grammar School to harvest some of the crops that we planted in the summer. We were able to pick so many carrots and blackberries and bring them back to school. Thank you to Mrs Motiwala and all of the boys and girls from Urmston Grammar School for helping us. Thank you to Mrs Jones for coming along and helping us. We had a great time and cannot wait to go back in December for some tree planting.
